Ingredients
- Fresh amla (Indian gooseberry): 1 medium-sized (or 1 tbsp amla powder)
- Fresh turmeric root: 1-inch piece (or ½ tsp turmeric powder)
- Water: 1 cup
- Lemon juice: 1 tsp
- Honey or maple syrup: 1 tsp (optional)
- Black pepper: a pinch (to enhance turmeric absorption)
- Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
Preparation
If using fresh amla, grate it or chop it into small pieces.
Peel and grate the fresh turmeric root. If using turmeric powder, skip this step.
In a blender, add the amla, fresh turmeric (or turmeric powder), black pepper, and water.
Blend until smooth. If you prefer a smooth drink, strain the mixture using a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth.
Pour the blended mixture into a glass.
Add fresh lemon juice and honey (optional) for sweetness and tang. Mix well
Garnish with fresh mint leaves for added freshness (optional).
Serve chilled or at room temperature as a detoxifying drink.
Number of servings : 2-3 (approx 150 ml)
Notes
- Amla is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, while turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties. Together, they make a powerful detox combination.
- Black pepper helps in better absorption of turmeric’s active compound, curcumin, so don’t skip it.
- Avoid sweetner for healthier option,
- Replace regular water with coconut water for added electrolytes and a refreshing taste.
